about

I met Silo String Quartet at a show they were playing with some dear friends of mine in a band called Glasfrosch. It was kind of a weird gig - it was in Dandenong, for one thing (the first and only time I've been there...) during some Council funded arts festival, in a tiny little theatre in the back of an art gallery, and the lineup was Silo and Glasfrosch - a string quartet and a prog rock band. Silo played a set of string arrangements of their favourite 80s goth pop covers and I instantly fell in love with all of them, especially founder and music director, cellist Caerwen Martin. I found her at the set break and gushed about how amazing they were and asked if we could work together sometime. She laughed at me and said yes and I felt like such a cheeseball.

lyrics

The Lotus Eaters will have you next
Off with their flowers and off with their dex
It’s a twice-bitten road up ahead
Don’t lay, lady, lay in the night terror’s bed
(Is it cruel to be kind or kind to be cruel?
Whatever you want - they’ll take the best of you)

It’s been a long time coming now, honey
Won’t you take that? Be there? It wouldn’t be right
To let you down easy, down easy
So far down
(Are you scared to be brave or brave to be scared?
Whatever you hear - don’t trust in a word they’ve said)

The waves they mourn and rave so far away
Don’t let them carry your voice under
Keep sailing til you eat the edge of day
To satisfy this violent hunger

Lay me down, leave us alone
Wear me out, we will no longer roam
To the sound beyond the barren foam
Hear me out, let me go home

It’s been a long time coming now.
It’s been a long time coming now.
It’s been a long time coming now.
It’s been a long time coming.
